Sophie Turner’s journey from the streets of Northampton, England, to the bustling sets of Hollywood has been nothing short of remarkable. The Game of Thrones star first stepped across the Atlantic to pursue her acting career in the United States. The chase for fame and opportunities made her step away from the quiet streets and her loved ones in the UK. She continued her stay in the US after tying the knot with Joe, but her divorce made her travel to the UK, where her heart lied. Now, after living there for two years, Sophie revealed why she will never go back.
Why does Sophie Turner say she will never go back to the US?
Sophie Turner recently sat down for a conversation with Flaunt, wherein she opened up about her life in the UK after her legal separation from Joe Jonas. The actress revealed that she has moved back to England permanently and does not wish to move back to England. She explained that living away from her family and close friends in the US made her realise how they play an important part in her wellness, and she doesn’t want to leave them. In her words:
“I just feel so at home here; I never want to move again. Living in the States, I didn’t appreciate how much you need friends and family and how integral they are to your wellness until you’re away from them. I came back with an abundance of appreciation for them.”
At the same time, Sophie, who is also the mother of two little daughters, Willa, aged five and Delphine, aged 3, mentioned that they have changed her as a person. On the whole, Sophie believes that motherhood has helped her find new depth in her personal and professional life. The renewed perspective made her understand how she has so much more to work on in her life and career. Sharing her feelings, the X-Men actress said:
“Being a mother has affected me more than I can ever say. I can now bring so much of that into my work and into this film too.”
Sophie Turner’s messy divorce and custody battle with Joe Jonas preceded her move to UK
Before Sophie Turner found her peace in the UK, the past few years of her life were filled with a lot of turbulence. Her love story with Joe Jonas, which began with a DM by the singer, led to her engagement in 2017 and marriage in 2019. But soon cracks started to appear in their bond, and the union ended in a divorce in 2023 following a four-year relationship. However, their split and custody battle over a year was anything but simple. Court documents revealed the former couple disagreed over custody and spousal support. At the same time, Sophie alleged that she first learned of Jonas’ divorce filing through the media.

The custody battle between Joe and Sophie for their daughters became challenging, especially after Sophie accused Joe of ‘wrongful retention’ of their daughters. She claimed that the singer had refused to provide passports or consent for their return to England with her. She described the trial as some of the “worst few days” of her life, which was surrounded by tabloid headlines that painted her as an inattentive mother while Joe was shown as an ideal parent. However, she overcame the emotional toll and they reached an agreement to co-parent their daughters.
