Neha Dhupia reacted to the backlash she received for getting pregnant before marriage
Neha Dhupia is the founder of Freedom to Feed. She received a lot of backlash when listeners targeted her personal life and criticised her for getting pregnant before marriage. She revealed that people were curious to know how she became a mother within six months. Addressing it, she said:
“I married Angad [Bedi, actor-husband], and after six months we welcomed our daughter [Mehr]. But the biggest conversation around our wedding was, ‘How did the baby come in six months? Ye ho kaise gaya?’”
Neha Dhuia further revealed that she still sees female actors getting trolled for getting pregnant before marriage. She even dragged Alia Bhatt and her getting pregnant before marriage. For the unversed, Alia Bhatt got married to Ranbir Kapoor on April 14, 2022, and she gave birth to her baby girl in November 2022. Neha was quoted as saying:
“Even now, I see stories and tags on female actors who get pregnant before marriage. I feel, at least, I’m on the same list as Neena Gupta and Alia Bhatt. But honestly, this is ridiculous.”
Neha Dhupia further revealed that no one should dictate or question a woman when to marry or have a baby. She called pregnancy the most beautiful, and that’s it. She also shared that all the criticism made her start the decision to launch Freedom to Feed, a platform that addresses the conversation around motherhood.
When Neha Dhupia was asked to step away from projects due to pregnancy
Earlier, in an interview with Pinkvilla, Neha talked about people rejecting her for roles. She shared that she would get roles, but suddenly they would say they were shooting out of the country. Later, she would find them shooting without her at the same location. However, the heartbreaking moment was when she was asked to step down from projects because of her pregnancy. She said:
“Up to now, where I have been asked to step down from projects due to pregnancy. They said my look would be different. So you face rejection at all levels.”
Earlier, in an interview with the Filmfare magazine, Neha talked about her so-called designer friends refusing to give her outfits because of her postpartum weight. Neha had also shared that after her son’s birth, she had gone to her friend’s wedding and wanted to wear a fancy outfit. But all her a-lister designer friends had denied it.
