At the launch event on August 20, 2025 for his son Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan brought the house down with his trademark wit by poking fun at the failure of his own film Zero (2018).
Shah Rukh Khan turns Zero’s failure into laughter at The Ba***ds of Bollywood preview launch; says, “Gadha bana lena, mamu bana lena lekin bhagwan ke liye meri tarah Zero mat banana”
During a lively on-stage conversation actor Manish Chaudhari jokingly told Shah Rukh Khan, “Producer to producer ek baat kahoon? agar izzat se rahoge to hero bana doonga warna ek din mai Zero bana doonga.”
Responding in the same humorous spirit, Shah Rukh quipped, “Main bhi producer to producer ek baat kahoon?… Sir, aapko jo bhi banana hai bana lena, ullu bana lena, gadha bana lena, mamu bana lena lekin bhagwan ke liye meri tarah Zero mat banana.”
The audience erupted in laughter at the self-deprecating punchline, which skilfully transformed a professional setback into a moment of levity and humility for Shah Rukh—a testament to his charismatic resilience.
He has used this humorous dig on Zero as an anchor to introduce and celebrate his son’s significant milestone, while also subtly acknowledging a challenging phase in his career. Zero—directed by Aanand L. Rai and featuring Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif—was highly anticipated but did not meet expectations, ultimately becoming one of the major box-office disappointments of his career.
Adding more significance to the occasion, The Ba***ds of Bollywood is poised to stream on Netflix starting September 18, 2025. The series—produced by Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies Entertainment and co-created by Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan—includes an ensemble cast: Bobby Deol, Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Mona Singh, Anya Singh, Raghav Juyal, Gautami Kapoor, and Manoj Pahwa.
