On Wednesday night, Laufey took over the Grammy Museum’s Ray Charles Terrace in downtown Los Angeles for a night that blended new music, candid storytelling, and a little bit of star power.

The sold-out Drop: Laufey – A Benefit Program supported the museum’s music education initiatives and comes just months after she won best traditional pop vocal album at the 2024 Grammys for Bewitched.

The evening opened with a sit-down conversation between Laufey and three-time Grammy winner Peter Asher, during which she talked about her songwriting process, classical background, and the viral moments that pushed her music onto the global stage. She also teased her next chapter with A Matter of Time, her sophomore album arriving Friday.

Then she grabbed her guitar. Backed by strings and piano, Laufey performed a nine-song set that included early debuts from the upcoming album like “Lover Girl,” “Promise,” “Letter to My 13 Year Old Self” and “Mr. Eclectic.” Before starting “Mr. Eclectic,” she grinned and told the crowd, “I wrote a song about performative men,” earning laughs before easing into the track for the first time.

The audience even included a few famous faces: Selena Gomez and her sister Gracie were spotted watching from the crowd, catching the new music live before its official release.

What could have been just another album preview felt bigger,  a tribute to Laufey’s rise and a big reminder that she’s shaping the next chapter of jazz while making sure future musicians have the same shot. See the best photos from Laufey’s night at the Grammy Museum below.
