On the latest episode of Amitabh Bachchan quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 17’, contestant Aditya Kumar from Uttarakhand came agonisingly close to the grand jackpot but ultimately bowed out at the Rs 7 crore question. The 28-year-old, who had earlier scripted history as the season’s first crorepati, chose to walk away with Rs 1 crore rather than risk it all.
The question that stood between Kumar and the Rs 7 crore prize was: “Which Japanese artist visited India in the 1930s and painted a celebrated series depicting the Taj Mahal, the Sanchi Stupa, and the Ellora Caves?”
The options were:
A. Hiroshima Sugimoto
B. Hiroshi Senju
C. Hiroshi Yoshida
D. Hiroshi Nakajima
Uncertain of the answer, Kumar decided to quit. He made a guess with option D – Hiroshi Nakajima – which turned out to be incorrect. The correct response was Hiroshi Yoshida, the celebrated Japanese painter and woodblock printmaker known for his evocative depictions of Indian monuments.
Earlier in the episode, Kumar had clinched the Rs 1 crore prize by correctly answering: “Which of these elements is named after the scientist who isolated Plutonium, the element that was used to make the first atomic bomb?”
With the help of the 50:50 lifeline, he chose Seaborgium, winning loud applause from host Amitabh Bachchan and the studio audience.
Although Kumar could not claim the Rs 7 crore jackpot, his composure and strategic gameplay drew admiration. His parents, present in the audience, were visibly emotional as he walked away with Rs 1 crore.
