The Bangalore Hotels Association has written to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar over the slow pace of road repair works in the city.
Association president PC Rao said that projects meant to be completed in three months are stretching over 15 months, with several still pending.
The association said that due to these delays, businesses such as hotels, bakeries, sweet shops, bars, restaurants, and other retail outlets have witnessed a nearly 50 per cent drop in revenue. The poor condition of roads has also caused inconvenience to the public, especially senior citizens, it noted.
Seeking relief, the association has demanded at least a 50 per cent concession in property tax, garbage tax, electricity fixed charges, excise fees, and other licence fees until the works are completed.
The body has urged the government to expedite the roadworks and support businesses struggling due to the extended timelines.
A CAG report tabled in the state assembly on Tuesday pointed out that capital expenditure fell by Rs 5,229 crore compared to the previous year. This, it said, led to a 68 per cent rise in incomplete projects, a trend that could harm Karnataka’s future growth prospects.
Senior BJP leader R Ashoka, too, recently hit out at the government over the state of Bengaluru’s roads, calling them “death traps” after continuous rains.
In a post on X, he said potholes have turned commuting into “daily suffering,” leading to accidents, injuries, and health issues for citizens.
