The Maharashtra government has cleared the recruitment of 15,631 constables across the state’s police and prison departments. The decision was formalized through a Government Resolution (GR) issued on Wednesday.

As a one-time relaxation, candidates who had crossed the upper age limit in 2022 and 2023 will also be eligible to apply. The government has also waived the earlier rule that allowed only 50 percent of posts to be filled through direct recruitment, citing the urgent need for additional personnel.

The recruitment drive will be conducted division-wise, and applicants will be required to appear for an OMR-based written examination. The exam fee has been fixed at ?450 for open category candidates and ?350 for those from reserved categories.

The vacancies include both posts that remained unfilled in 2024 and those that will open up in 2025. Out of the total, there are 12,399 police constable posts, 234 police constable driver positions, 25 bandsmen, 2,393 armed police constable posts, and 580 prison constable vacancies.
