    Judge Frank Caprio, the popular Providence Municipal Court chief judge and star of Caught in Providence, passed away at the age of 88. In his final years, he gave a courageous fight against pancreatic cancer. Also known as ‘America’s Nicest Judge,’ Frank had touched millions of lives with his empathy-driven rulings in his local courtroom, which was soon turned into a show.

    His death was confirmed on Wednesday by his son, and he revealed that their family was by Frank’s side when he peacefully passed away at 2:15 p.m. Undoubtedly, family was always a priority for Frank’s life, and here is everything you must know about his wife, Joyce, their kids, and grandchildren.

    Judge Caprio is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Joyce E. Caprio, their five children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Married in 1965, Frank and Joyce shared a partnership built on love, faith, and family that went on to become the backbone of his personal and professional life. They welcomed five children, beginning 65from their eldest son, Frank T., David, Marissa, John, and Paul.

    They went on to raise families of their own, giving the couple seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Frank used to often share pictures and videos from his family life publicly, especially on Mother’s Day; he didn’t fail to thank his wife, Joyce, for her strength, love, and devotion. In one heartfelt social media post, he called her “the incredible woman who gave me the greatest gift of all: our five amazing children.” However, despite his fame, he and his family lived a low-key life. As a result, specific details are not available about them.

    Judge Frank Caprio shared a final video message hours before his demise

    In the last few months that led up to his death, Judge Caprio regularly updated his 3.2 million Instagram followers about his health journey. Just hours before his death, he had posted a final video message asking his supporters to keep him in their prayers after his health had decline due to his pancreatic cancer recoccurance. Speaking from his deathbed, Frank said:

    “I’m coming to you again, asking you to remember me in your prayers once more.”

    Judge Frank Caprio was born in Providence in 1936 to Italian immigrant parents. He initially worked odd jobs as a child before pursuing higher education. After earning his law degree from Suffolk University, he began a career in law and public service that spanned multiple decades. He was appointed to the famous Providence Municipal Court in 1985 and served for nearly 40 years. However, he soon became viral for his empathy-driven decisions, which were turned into a show that earned a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2021. Apart from the courtroom, he chaired the Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education and created scholarships in honor of his father.
