The 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles will debut in a fast-track format, compressed into two days during Fan Week at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. Matches are set for Tuesday, August 19, and Wednesday, August 20 on Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong Stadiums.

The 16-team draw features eight direct entries and eight wild cards. Direct pairings include Jessica Pegula & Jack Draper, Iga Swiatek & Casper Ruud, Elena Rybakina & Taylor Fritz, Amanda Anisimova & Holger Rune, Belinda Bencic & Alexander Zverev, Mirra Andreeva & Daniil Medvedev, Madison Keys & Frances Tiafoe, and Jasmine Paolini & Lorenzo Musetti.

Wild-card duos bring star power with Novak Djokovic & Olga Danilovic, Naomi Osaka & Gael Monfils, Emma Raducanu & Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Townsend & Ben Shelton, Venus Williams & Reilly Opelka, Sara Errani & Andrea Vavassori, and Katerina Siniakov & Jannik Sinner.

Withdrawals from Emma Navarro, Paula Badosa, and Tommy Paul reshaped the field, with Pegula joining Draper, Siniakov partnering Sinner, and Paolini & Musetti moving into the main draw. Questions remain over the participation of Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Swiatek, who all reached the Cincinnati Masters finals the previous week.

    Mixed Doubles Format Draws Criticism

The revamped event carries record prize money, with $1 million to the champions. The new format has drawn strong criticism from doubles players, who feel ignored by the changes. Reigning champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori called it a “profound injustice,” while Wimbledon winners Sem Verbeek and Katerina Siniakova said it puts traditional doubles players at a disadvantage.

French star Kristina Mladenovic also called it a marketing-driven move that overlooks doubles specialists. Former doubles world No.1 Paul McNamee said the shortened sets reduced the competition to an “exhibition.”

Some singles players support the new format, but others, like Coco Gauff, have opted out due to scheduling and mental fatigue. Jessica Pegula backed the initiative but criticised the lack of player consultation.
