Leave it to Nina Agdal to modernize the Victorian era “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” wedding tradition.

The Danish model borrowed a few baubles for her nuptials with the YouTube star and former WWE wrestler Logan Paul near Lake Como, Italy, from Jaime Vornea, cofounder of Reservd, a rental fine jewelry brand that launches next month.

Agdal first connected with Vornea a while back to create matching custom pendant necklaces for her and Paul for another special occasion.

“Before the wedding, she said, ‘I have no jewelry. Can I borrow something?’” said Vornea, who was happy to oblige, and designed her an 8.5 carat pear-shaped lab-grown diamond necklace. While select celebrities have been known to monetize their nuptials to the max, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model was not paid by Reservd. And she bought a few keepsakes for relatives. The one freebie was a 1-carat version of the pear-shaped necklace that the start-up gifted to her and Paul’s 10-month-old daughter Esme. Agdal bought 2-carat versions of the necklace for her mother, her grandmother and her mother-in-law.

For the couple’s after party, Vornea lent Agdal a tennis necklace and a tennis bracelet both with multishaped lab-grown diamonds. Those pieces and the 8.5-carat necklace are all loaners, as a nod to her sense of sustainability.

Coincidentally, Agdal relied on another family-oriented business to create the “something blue” element of her wedding weekend. The House of Gilles created a halterneck dress with 37,000 hand-sewn crystals and sequins and a soft blue lining for her to wear to Friday’s welcome party at the Villa D’Este. Chloe Mendel Corgan, who runs the company with her designer father Gilles Mendel, said the creation required 700 hours of work in the house’s New York atelier. The father-daughter team have crafted ethereal creations for the New York City Ballet.

Mendel Corgan said, “Nina had such a clear vision. She wanted the gown to glisten in the sunset, while also incorporating her ‘something blue’ for the weekend. She looked absolutely radiant, and our goal was to honor that vision while infusing it with the signature House of Gilles touch.”

She connected with the bride through the stylist Jamie Frankel and mutual friend Samantha Achatz. Emphasizing House of Gilles’ know-how about craftsmanship, precise fit and an anatomical understanding of the body, Mendel Corgan said Monday, “Nina placed her trust in us to bring her vision to life, and it was an absolute joy to create a gown that reflected both her spirit and her moment.” 

Vornea launched her first company Je T’aime with her uncle Jordan Smith in 2019, and the pair started selling lab-grown diamonds last March under Jaime New York. Gigi Hadid, Nina Logan and The Chainsmokers were among the early fans of the custom pieces.

Routinely being asked by influencers to borrow the lab-grown jewelry, Vornea and Smith decided that a lending business model is needed. Next month they will launch Reservd, an online platform where users can pay $56 per month for up to $5,000 worth of rentals or as much as $300 per month for up to $35,000 in rentals. A launch event is being planned for New York Fashion Week at the hair salon Rpzl. Vornea understands the power of human interaction, having met Hadid by chance one night at Nobu. The jewelry entrepreneur introduced herself to the model, and offered to send her something. When Hadid suggested a necklace like the one she was wearing, Vornea took it off and gave her that one. “Before I left the dinner, she DM’ed me, ‘Thank you so much.’ She was appreciative. She wore for almost a year straight.”
