Mahindra has expanded its futuristic SUV showcase with the debut of the Vision S Concept at the Freedom NU event. Positioned as a compact SUV likely to join the Scorpio line-up, the Vision S is the most production-ready of the four new Vision concepts and is expected to be the first to reach Indian roads by 2027.

Bold SUV character with modern touches

The Vision S combines a traditional upright stance with cleaner, more contemporary surfacing. Up front, the internal combustion badge is framed by triple-stacked LED modules that form 6 square panels, eventually coming together to form a horizontally stacked grille and flowing into inverted L-shaped signature lights, creating a distinctive face. The concept’s bumper features a prominent skid plate and radar housing, while the fog lamps lend a futuristic touch.

From the side, the SUV’s purposeful look is accentuated by thick wheel arch cladding, squared-off proportions, 19-inch alloy wheels, and red brake calipers. A roof ladder and a mounted jerry can emphasise its adventure-ready character, while camera-based mirrors, flush door handles, and a floating roofline add sophistication. Though it remains to be seen, how many of these elements will make their way to the final production model.

The rear mirrors the front with L-shaped tail-lamps linked by pixel accents on the bumper, while the tailgate-mounted spare wheel underscores its rugged identity.

    Futuristic yet practical cabin

Going by the renders released by the company, the Vision S sports a dual-screen layout that dominates the dashboard, with a reimagined steering wheel featuring “VISION S” lettering, and a driver display sporting fresh digital graphics. The central infotainment screen will run Mahindra’s new NU UX interface with wireless smartphone connectivity.

Premium elements include dual-tone upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, and large grab handles at the rear doors for easy ingress.

    Platform and launch

Like its Vision siblings (T, X and SXT), the Vision S is based on Mahindra’s NU_IQ monocoque platform. This versatile architecture supports petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric powertrains, as well as both FWD and AWD layouts.

The SUV’s footprint is under 4 metres in length, with a generous 2,665mm wheelbase.

    Road to 2027

While some design flourishes like the roof ladders and jerry can may be toned down, Mahindra is expected to retain much of the bold SUV character in the production model. Production is slated for 2027.
