The word of mouth of War 2 has overpowered Jr. NTR’s stardom in Telugu, as the collections of Ayan Mukerji’s film have come down crashing on the second day. According to early estimates, War 2 has collected a total of just Rs. 11 crores on Independence Day, down from the first-day collections of Rs. 25 crores.
The film was expected to be the big Pan-Indian film from Hindi Cinema, but the numbers have come as a shocker for the trade and even the teams working on War 2. The film was sold to Naga Vamsi for a sum of Rs. 90 crores, and the share of War 2 will be half of the amount, which means losses of juggernaut proportions for the distributors in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The drop has come despite a National Holiday, and signals that the word of mouth is negative, leading to a rejection. The Hindi version of War 2 is proving to be a saviour and will help it reach a face-saving number in the long run. By the end of the run, the Hindi version could be almost 3x the Telugu version, but that doesn’t mean anything good for War 2, as the Hindi version too will end up as a non-performing asset.
There is a drop in the morning shows of Telugu on Saturday too, and the film could hit a single-digit number today.
