Shilpa Shetty and her husband, Raj Kundra, found themselves in rough waters after they were booked by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for allegedly cheating a Mumbai-based businessman. According to reports, the couple cheated the businessman of Rs. 60.4 crore in connection with a loan-cum-investment deal. Amid that, the couple was spotted visiting Premanand Maharaj seeking their guidance and blessings.
Raj Kundra offers his kidney to Premanand Maharaj
Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty were recently spotted in Vrindavan. The couple visited the spiritual guru, Premanand Maharaj and sought his blessings. Their appearance has drawn immense attention from around the country. However, it’s not because of the couple’s devotion but because it came at a time when their name had surfaced in a Rs. 60 crore fraud case.
During their meeting with Premanand Maharaj, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra sought his blessings. However, the surprising moment came after Raj offered one of his kidneys to the guru in light of his health struggles. While seated with Premanand Maharaj, the couple shared their concerns and received wise words of comfort from the guru. In the course of the conversation, the spiritual leader revealed that both his kidneys had failed and that he had been living with the condition for nearly a decade. To this, Raj immediately expressed his desire to donate a kidney to him and stated:
“I’ve been following you for the past two years. I have no questions because your videos always answer any doubts or fears I have. You are an inspiration to everyone. I know about your health condition, and if I can help, one of my kidneys is yours.”
The unexpected statement surprised Shilpa Shetty. However, Premanand Maharaj responded with gratitude. The spiritual guru stated that the couple’s happiness was enough for him. He added that he wouldn’t leave the world until his time comes. However, he would accept Raj Kundra’s goodwill with gratitude. He was quoted as saying:
“It’s enough for me that you stay happy. Until the call comes, we won’t leave this world because of a kidney. But I accept your goodwill from the heart.”
The Rs. 60 crore fraud case
Shilpa and Raj are being booked for fraud after a complaint was filed by Deepak Kothari, alleging that the couple defrauded him of over Rs. 60 crore, which also involved their now-defunded company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. According to the businessman, he invested the amount between 2015 and 2023 under the pretext of expanding a business, but the money was allegedly misused for personal expenses.
The case has now been handed over to EOW for further investigation as the amount involved exceeded Rs. 10 crore. On August 14, 2025, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra’s lawyer issued a statement sharing the couple’s side of the matter. Advocate Prashant Patil informed the media that the allegations against his clients are completely false. He added that the statements being shown are old and from a time when the company was in financial distress.
