A 17-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide on Friday after jumping from the 23rd floor of a residential building in Mumbai’s Goregaon area.
The Class XI student was found unresponsive on the ground premises and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.
The Aarey Colony police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and said that the circumstances leading to the incident are being investigated. The police are further investigating the matter.
This is the third similar case reported in Mumbai in recent days, raising concerns over the mental health of young people in the city.
Last week, a 26-year-old student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, identified as Rohit Sinha, jumped to death from the terrace of his hostel building.
Sinha, a fourth-year Meta Science student from Delhi, reportedly took the step around 2:30 am.
He was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Police said another hostel resident was on the terrace at the time and witnessed the fall. An ADR was registered, and inquiries were initiated.
Last month, a 14-year-old boy — the son of an actor known for Gujarati and Hindi television serials — allegedly jumped from the 51st floor of a Kandivali high-rise after an argument with his mother over attending tuition classes.
The repeated occurrences have highlighted the urgent need for awareness and support systems to address mental health challenges among both students and teenagers in Mumbai.
