Yesterday, T-Series announced that their upcoming film, Ek Chatur Naar, starring Divya Khossla and Neil Nitin Mukesh, will be released on September 12. The film is directed by Umesh Shukla of OMG Oh My God (2012) and 102 Not Out (2018) fame. Interestingly, this is the day when Heer Express is already scheduled to release and this film is also made by Umesh Shukla. The filmmaker thus joins the august company of prominent filmmakers like Priyadarshan and David Dhawan, who have been in a similar situation before.

On Diwali 2005, 3 films were released in cinemas – Garam Masala, Kyon Ki and Shaadi No 1. The first two were helmed by Priyadarshan. While Garam Masala starred Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Paresh Rawal, Kyon Ki starred Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in leading roles, with Rimii Sen in a cameo. However, they were released in the same week but not exactly on the same day. The comic caper Garam Masala arrived on November 2, 2005, while the romantic serious drama Kyon Ki hit theatres a day later, on November 3.
But David Dhawan’s Mr & Mrs Khiladi, starring Akshay Kumar and Juhi Chawla and Deewana Mastana, featuring Anil Kapoor, Govinda and Juhi Chawla, released on the same day – October 10, 1997! Both belonged to the comedy genre and both were successes. Kyon Ki, however, flopped, though Garam Masala was a success.
It now remains to be seen how Ek Chatur Naar and Heer Express fare at the box office. The former seems to be a crazy comedy, as evident by the motion poster. Since a few days, the producers released stills and a funky video of Divya Khossla but didn’t mention that it belonged to Ek Chatur Naar. 2 days ago, a quirky video of Neil Nitin Mukesh also emerged. It added to the curiosity and it was only yesterday when the makers unveiled that they are starring together in a film.
On the other hand, Heer Express stars Divita Juneja, Pritt Kamani, Gulshan Grover, Sanjay Mishra, Ashutosh Rana and Meghna Malik, and is a family entertainer. It was originally scheduled to be released on August 8 but was pushed to September 12.
Another filmmaker to have two films releasing on the same day is Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar. His Kashmir-based thriller, Ground Zero, starring Emraan Hashmi and Marathi film Devmanus, arrived in cinemas on April 25, 2025.
