Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon has become a fan of England’s Bazball approach ahead of the Ashes series later this year. England recently managed to draw five-match series against India 2-2, which was a prelude to their highly anticipated tour to Australia for the Ashes, scheduled to begin from November.
England last won a Test in Australia in January 2011 as they sealed the Ashes 3-1. Ahead of their upcoming tour of Australia, Lyon praised the England side, saying that they have players who can win matches on their own such as Joe Root and Ben Stokes.
“That’s the way they’re playing their cricket, which is totally fine by me. It’s shaping up for one hell of a summer. I think their approach has changed a little bit. They’ve got some stars in their cricket side who can win games of cricket off their own back. Joe Root, Ben Stokes and these guys,” Lyon said as quoted from The Sydney Morning Herald.
Furthermore, he also mentioned that England have brought a change in their approach as they’re now looking to win matches instead of just entertaining with their aggressive strokeplay.
“But it looks to me like they’ve totally changed their approach, and they’re trying to think about how to win games of cricket rather than just being pure entertainers. And they’ve played some decent cricket over the last little while,” he added.
Since 2013, England have lost 13 out of the 15 Tests in England and drawn two games. Hence, the Ben Stokes-led side has a massive task at hand to perform out of their skins and script a historic triumph in England. The Three Lions have won 25 out of 41 matches under the Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum leadership.
They’ve lost away from home in India and Pakistan and hence the Australia tour is going to be extremely crucial for Stokes and his men.
