    Chehlum Procession traffic advisory: Key Delhi route changes on Aug 14

    The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive advisory for August 14, 2025 in view of the Chehlum procession, observed by the Shia Muslim community to mark the 40 day of Muharram. The event commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and is expected to draw thousands of participants, affecting traffic across several parts of the city.

    MAIN PROCESSION ROUTE

    The main Chehlum procession, including Tazia and Alam, will begin at Pahari Bhojla at 8:30 AM and move towards Karbala, Jor Bagh (PS Lodhi Colony) via the following major points

    • Bazar Chitli Qabar

    • Bazar Matia Mahal

    • Chowk Jama Masjid

    • Chowk Hauz Qazi

    • Ajmeri Gate

    • Pahar Ganj Bridge

    • Chelmsford Road

    • New Delhi Railway Station

    • Outer Circle Connaught Place (opposite side carriageway)

    • Sansad Marg Patel Chowk Rail Bhawan Kartvya Path/Rafi Marg crossing

    • Sunehri Masjid Sunehri Bagh Road Krishna Menon Marg

    • Gol Methi Tughlaq Road Aurobindo Marg Jor Bagh Road Karbala Lodhi Colony for burial

    The gathering at Karbala, Jor Bagh is expected to be around 20,000–25,000 people, including women, children, diplomats, and ambassadors from Gulf countries.

    ROADS LIKELY TO BE REGULATED FROM 8:30 am

    To ensure smooth traffic management, movement will be regulated on these roads:

    • Jama Masjid Road/Chawri Bazar Road

    • Ajmeri Gate Road, Asaf Ali Road, Basant Road

    • Qutub Road, Panchkuinyan Road, Aurobindo Marg, Rafi Marg

    • Krishna Menon Marg, Motilal Nehru Marg, Barakhamba Road

    • Janpath, Baba Kharak Singh Marg

    • Lal Kuan Bazar Road, Shradhanand Marg, JLN Marg

    • Main Bazar Road, Nai Sadak, DBG Road

    • Chelmsford Road, Sansad Marg

    • Sunehri Bagh Road, Tughlaq Road, Prithviraj Road

    • Ashoka Road, Talkatora Road, K.G. Marg

    • Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Road, Lodhi Road, Jor Bagh Road

    TRAFFIC DIVERSION POINTS

    Vehicular traffic will be diverted or controlled at multiple points, including:

    • Brij Mohan Chowk, Hauz Qazi Chowk, R/A Jhandewalan

    • R/A Teen Murti, R/A Gol Methi, R/A Motilal Nehru Marg

    • Q-Point, AIIMS Loop, Jama Masjid Road/Chawri Bazar Road Crossing

    • Ajmeri Gate Chowk, R/A RML, R/A GPO, R/A Mandi House

    • C-Hexagon, R/A Windsor Place, Dayal Singh Chowk

    • Some bus services may also be curtailed depending on procession movement.

    ADVICE FOR PASSENGERS TO NEW DELHI RAILWAY STATION

    • Travellers, especially in the afternoon, are advised to leave early and avoid affected areas

    • From East & North Delhi: Rohtak Road Rani Jhansi Road Boulevard Road ISBT Ring Road Rajghat Chowk Jawaharlal Nehru Marg

    Metro services are strongly recommended for uninterrupted travel.
