A leopard may not be able to change its spots, but the Adidas Samba has proven to be adept in switching from leopard print to cheetah print.
Following the wake of Wale Bonner’s hit leopard print Sambas from 2023, Adidas introduced an in-line cheetah print Samb, making use of the same faux-pony hair. Both Adidas and retailers haven’t been able to keep it in stock throughout several releases this year, and another restock is set to go down this week.
The Adidas Samba Cheetah is a near-dupe of the Wales Bonner collaboration, as a furry cheetah print forms the majority of the upper. White leather is then used for the Three Stripes, heel and tongue, while pops of an orange-ish red arrive through the laces and lining. Rounding out the sneaker is the classic brown cupsole.
Even past its peak in popularity, the Samba has once again become ubiquitous in its cheetah print variant. The sneaker has been all over women’s style TikTok and is all but assured to sell out once again.
In the broader sneaker game, the effect of the Samba can be seen plainly in the popularity of other low-profile silhouettes, including Adidas’ own Handball Spezial and Gazelle. It also kick-started a trend for soccer-derived sneakers that only appears to be growing stronger ahead of the World Cup in 2026.
As before, the Samba Cheetah will release alongside an SL72 with the same material treatment.
The Adidas Samba Cheetah will release on Friday exclusively through the Adidas app. Pricing is set at $110.
