Sullivan’s Crossing Season 3 finally reached its finale, and it was one for the books. The series, which is an adaptation of the book Sullivan’s Crossing, follows the story of ‘Maggie Sullivan’ (Morgan Kohan), a Boston-based neurosurgeon whose once-thriving career is derailed by legal troubles. Seeking a fresh start, she returns to her hometown, Nova Scotia, to reconnect with her estranged father, ‘Harry (Sully) Sullivan’, played by Scott Patterson.
Sullivan’s Crossing Season 3 finale raises several questions about ‘Maggie Sullivan’
The Boston bigshot, ‘Maggie Sullivan’, finds herself adjusting to the small-town life as she falls into a slow-burn romance with ‘Cal Jones’ essayed by Chad Michael Murray, the handyman at her dad’s campground. ‘Maggie’ and ‘Cal’s’ relationship was tested multiple times throughout the first two seasons, and season 3 did not break the streak.
On the other end of the story, after losing his diner at the end of season 2, ‘Rob Shandon’ (Reid Price) finally finds some happiness. He is seen celebrating the grand opening of his rebuilt restaurant in the season 3 finale. However, as the whole town joins him to celebrate, the fans are introduced to a surprising character, ‘Liam Davies’ (Marcus Rosner), ‘Maggie’s’ ex. She had previously described him as a ‘summer fling’, but everyone is left shocked when she asks him what he’s doing there, he replies:
“Is that any way to greet your husband?”
The season ends on one of the most dramatic cliffhangers in Sullivan’s Crossing, with Maggie seemingly too stunned to speak. The episode ends on her frozen expression, setting up the fallout for season 4.
Will ‘Maggie’ and ‘Cal’ stay together after ‘Liam’s’ sudden appearance?
One of the biggest questions Sullivan’s Crossing fans have is whether the hot-cold duo, ‘Maggie’ and ‘Cal’, will survive this storm named ‘Liam’. Well, season 3 has left that as a lingering question. ‘Maggie’ had finally decided to make a life for herself in Timberlake, as in the closing moments, she told ‘Cal’ she had found a way to have both by opening her own practice in town. However, ‘Liam’s’ arrival seems to have unsettled the matter once again. Will the two work through this mess, or is it the end? Only season 4 will tell.
What happened to ‘Edna’?
Another question that has been eating away at the fans is where ‘Edna Cranebear’ (Andrea Menard) is. Well, she learned in the final episodes that a benign brain tumour was to be blamed for her diminishing eyesight. Leaving it in place meant she would remain blind and could face further health issues. However, removing it came with equally high, life-or-death stakes. Nonetheless, ‘Edna’ finally opts for the surgery only with the condition that ‘Maggie’ performs it, and she does. After a tense procedure, the finale shows the sweet lady recovering happily with her husband, ‘Frank Cranebear’ (Tom Jackson).
Where do ‘Sully’ and ‘Helen’ stand?
Sullivan’s Crossing Season 3 also touched on the topic of old love. The season introduced ‘Sully’s’ first love, ‘Helen Culver’, who stayed in one of his cabins. By the end of the season, the two decide to give their love a chance to bloom as ‘Sully’ announced that he would join ‘Helen’ on an extended trip to Ireland, which means the operations of the Crossing will fall to ‘Maggie’ and ‘Cal’ in the coming season.
