The father of the RG Kar Medical College victim has lodged a written complaint with the Kolkata Police, alleging that his wife was attacked by police personnel during a protest on August 9 in Kolkata.
The complaint, sent via email to the Kolkata Police Commissioner and other senior officials, requests the filing of an FIR against the officers involved. An inquiry is currently underway following the receipt of this complaint.
The protest on August 9 saw the victim’s parents leading a march towards the West Bengal secretariat, Nabanna, demanding justice for their daughter who was raped and murdered last year. During the protest, the victim’s mother accused the police of assaulting her without provocation and breaking her bangles.
She questioned the authorities, asking, “Why are they stopping us? All we want is to reach the secretariat and ask for justice for my daughter.” Video footage from the event showed the victim’s parents requesting permission from the police to proceed, while standing behind barricades.
The case dates back to August 2024, when a 31-year-old trainee doctor was found dead inside the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. A postmortem confirmed that she was throttled and smothered.
The accused, Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, was convicted by a CBI court earlier this year. The case had garnered widespread attention and protests, leading the Calcutta High Court to transfer the investigation to the CBI and resulting in the resignation of the college principal.
