A man in Uttar Pradesh alleged that he received a non-vegetarian dish in place of a vegetarian meal he had ordered online on the last day of Sawan, while his relatives had gathered at home for Raksha Bandhan.

Dheeraj Singh, a resident of Unnao, said he had ordered Kadai Paneer, Paneer Fried Rice, and five rumali rotis for his family from a restaurant on Saturday night. While eating, he noticed something unusual in the paneer dish and, upon closer inspection, found what he claimed was a chicken leg piece.

Singh, who serves as a priest at a local temple, said his entire family is vegetarian and that the incident had “sullied their religious sanctity” on a significant festival day.

He immediately contacted the restaurant through the online delivery app but was dissatisfied with their response. He later recorded a video of the incident and posted it on social media, demanding strict action from the district administration and the government.

The video quickly went viral, prompting authorities to order an enquiry. Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway. Acting on district administration orders, Chief Food Officer Shailesh Dixit and his team inspected the restaurant and temporarily shut it down.

During the inspection, the restaurant owner admitted that the vegetarian order had been mistakenly mixed with a non-vegetarian one. Officials also found that vegetarian and non-vegetarian food was being prepared in the same kitchen area. Samples of flour and gravy were collected for testing.

Dixit said the restaurant has been ordered to stop cooking until separate arrangements are made for vegetarian and non-vegetarian preparations.
