A young worker from the Trinamool Congress was shot dead in broad daylight in the Dudiyahat area of Pundibari, Cooch Behar. The incident, which also left another person injured, has caused a stir in the community.
The victim, Amar Roy, a local youth leader and the son of a village panchayat head, was talking with friends when several assailants on a motorcycle approached him. They shot him in the head at close range, killing him instantly.
A friend who was with him was also shot in the leg and has been admitted at a local hospital. Witnesses said that the attackers fired indiscriminately as they fled the scene.
North Bengal State Transport Corporation Chairman Partha Pratim Roy visited the site and blamed the day-time murder on inadequate security measures. Cooch Behar’s Superintendent of Police, Dyutiman Bhattacharya, also inspected the scene.
This incident comes just months after another Trinamool leader, Raju De, was also shot and injured in the same area.
