Lauren Sánchez felt “proud,” but also “heartbroken,” as she dropped her son, Evan Whitesell, off at college.
The former journalist posted a photo of her 19-year-old son putting together furniture for his dorm room on Monday.
“Dropped off Evan at college today,” she wrote. “18 years of early mornings, late night snacks, and family dinners … and then there he was building his own dorm cabinet, a small thing, but in that moment I saw the start of his next chapter.”
Sánchez noted that she was “proud, heartbroken” and “grateful,” adding a heart emoji.

Evan is attending the University of Miami, where he plans to study business.
Sánchez, 55, shares Evan and her 17-year-old daughter, Ella, with her ex-husband, businessman Patrick Whitesell. The two were married from 2005-2019.
She is also a mom to her 24-year-old son, Nikko Gonzalez, whom she shares with her ex, former NFL star Tony Gonzalez.
In May she shared a rare snap of her with all of her children to celebrate Mother’s Day.
“Thank you for picking me as your mama!” she wrote.
“My whole world in one frame,” she added.
Sánchez’s children were all present at her wedding to Jeff Bezos in Venice, Italy, in June. Nikko and Evan walked her down the aisle, while Ella was her maid of honor.
Bezos has four kids with his ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott — three sons and a daughter — though they have largely remained out of the spotlight.
