The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) will conduct a national-level training programme for college faculty teaching Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biotechnology. The initiative is organised by the institute’s Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) under the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP) and is free of cost for participants.

The programme will be in-person, residential, and open to faculty from both undergraduate and postgraduate science courses. It is aimed at improving teaching methods, upgrading subject knowledge, and building a stronger STEM education ecosystem in India.

IIT Madras has partnered with BodhBridge Education for the execution of the training.

Applications can be submitted online at https://fundaspring.com/products/capacity-building-stem-faculty-iit-madras-malaviya-mission.

Each batch will have 50 participants, with shortlisted candidates informed by email. Sessions will take place at TLC Hall and the Central Library on the IIT Madras campus.

    FOCUS ON QUALITY AND INCLUSION

Professor Edamana Prasad, Chairman of the Teaching Learning Centre, said the programme is structured to improve teaching effectiveness and enhance student engagement.

The goals include better student performance, increased enrolment in STEM fields, and greater diversity and inclusion in higher education.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the Union Education Ministry’s commitment to continuous improvement in India’s education system.

Assessment and certification will be carried out under the MMTTP framework. Faculty members from public and private institutions are eligible.

    TRAINING STRUCTURE AND MODULES

The course content will combine core and advanced topics with practical exposure. Sessions will include laboratory work, innovative teaching approaches, and discussions on recent research in the respective fields. The programme will also encourage faculty to adopt modern, inquiry-driven curricula.

Reflecting the priorities of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the training will emphasise an interdisciplinary approach, skill development, research and innovation, experiential learning, and readiness for global academic standards.

    SCHEDULE

    Biotechnology: 22-30 August 2025

    Chemistry: 7-17 October 2025

    Physics Batch 1: 11-19 November 2025

    Physics Batch 2: 20-28 November 2025

    Mathematics: 15-24 December 2025

By bringing faculty from across the country into a focused, research-oriented training environment, IIT Madras aims to build teaching capacity that supports stronger STEM education and prepares students for future challenges.
