In Bordeaux, located in the southwest, temperatures soared to a blistering 41.6 degrees Celsius by around 4:00 pm local time (1400 GMT). This new high eclipsed the previous record of 41.2C set on July 23, 2019, marking a second wave of escalation in the region’s heat patterns after the first wave of June.
The national weather service, Meteo France, reported all-time records also falling at stations in Bergerac, Cognac, and Saint-Girons. These locations, scattered across southern France, highlighted the widespread impact of the heatwave, which has gripped large parts of the nation and prompted widespread concern.

Government officials emphasised the need for caution, advising people to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and check on vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and young children.
