Jamie shared that when she first saw her husband, Christopher Guest, she was sitting with the writer of the original Halloween, Debra Hill. She mentioned that it was 1984, when she and Debra were sitting on a couch in West Hollywood, and were going through the Rolling Stone magazine and saw Christopher’s photo in a Spinal Tap story. That’s when the Freakier Friday actress said to Debra that she wanted to marry the actor.
In a different essay that Jamie wrote for Oprah.com, the Freaky Friday actress shared that Debra conveyed to her who Christopher was and also told her that she knew his agent. Jamie called Christopher’s agent to give him her number, so if he was interested, he could call her. However, weeks passed, but the actor didn’t call Jamie. Later, she met Christopher at a restaurant, Hugo’s in West Hollywood and just waved at each other. The next day, the actor called Jamie, and the duo had their first date on July 2, 1984. By August 8, 1984, when Christopher left to tape a year of Saturday Night Live, the couple was head over heels in love.

Jamie and Christopher didn’t waste much time saying I do. Within just 6 months after their first meeting, they decided to tie the knot. Jamie married Christopher on December 18, 1984. Before exchanging vows, Jamie and Christopher maintained a long-distance relationship for a few months. In her essay for Oprah.com, Jamie recalled a phone call they had in September 1984, when Christopher told her he had gone for a walk on Fifth Avenue in New York. She asked what he did there, and he replied, “Do you like diamonds?” by hinting at buying an engagement ring.
At the time, Jamie was in Los Angeles for work, and Christopher was in New York, which made things hard for the two. In 1991, the actor told PEOPLE that he had just fallen deeply in love and was wondering what he was doing being so far away from his beloved. Thus, he proposed to her for marriage and sealed their relationship. The couple completed 40 years of marriage and celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in December 2024.

Earlier in an interview with Good Housekeeping, the Freakier Friday star described her and her husband, Christopher, as opposites. She shared that they were opposites since the first day and will always be like this. She revealed that they don’t listen to the same radio station, don’t read the same paper, and don’t go to bed at the same time. After experiencing infertility, Jamie and Christopher welcomed two children through adoption. They have two daughters, Annie and Ruby. Annie, their older daughter, grew up as a competitive dancer. In 2009, she graduated from Kenyon College in Ohio, with a BFA in dance. She is a dancer and was previously an instructor at the MNR Dance Factory in LA, where she first began her dance training at the mere age of 8. She married Jason Wolf in 2019 in a small backyard wedding.
