The internet is buzzing with theories, fan breakdowns, and chills before the release of Weapons, an upcoming horror-mystery film. Directed by Barbarian director Zach Cregger, the film’s poster, twisted trailer, and cast interviews have already created the necessary hype around the film. What is Weapons about?
Weapons is set in the fictional town of Maybrook, Illinois, which begins with a disturbing event of 17 of 18 children from an elementary school class disappearing together at 2:17 AM, leaving behind only one student. The entire community is shaken, and all eyes fall on ‘Justine Gandy’, the classroom teacher, and Archer Graff, the angry but grieving father of one of the missing kids.
As they try to uncover the mystery, they find that the disappearances weren’t random. Security footage shows the children calmly walking out of their homes, some barefoot, some still in pajamas, and they are all headed in the same direction, like they were in a trance. Each clue only leads to more questions. So, what really happened that night? Why that exact time? And who or what is behind the mass vanishing? All these questions will be answered in the film.

Weapons star Julia Garner as ‘Justin Grady’ and Josh Brolin as ‘Archer Graff ‘in leading roles. The other members of the cast include Alden Ehrenreich as ‘Officer Paul Morgan, Austin Abrams as ‘James’, Benedict Wong as ‘Principal Marcus’, Cary Christopher as the one child who didn’t vanish, Amy Madigan as ‘Gladys’, the aunt of a missing student, and more. The first trailer dropped in April 2025, with a second and a third more revealing trailer dropping in June 2025.
When and where will Weapons release?
Weapons will arrive in theaters on August 8, 2025. Some special screenings will begin at 2:17 PM to symbolise the time of the mass disappearance. It stars Josh Brolin and Julia Garner as two unlikely allies who are in a chilling race to uncover a mass disappearance that grips their entire small town. The movie has already scored a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes after the early critic screenings and is being hailed as an impressive mix of horror, grief, paranoia, and dark humor.
