Radhika Apte first time talked about the challenges she faced in Bollywood during the early days of her pregnancy. It was shocking to hear as the industry has been working hard for women’s empowerment, yet they do not show kindness to pregnant actresses and new moms. Radhika revealed her ordeal of how an Indian producer forced her to wear tight clothing during her first trimester.
Radhika Apte revealed how people in Bollywood treated her during her pregnancy
During a live session on Instagram hosted by Neha Dhupia, Radhika Apte revealed that when she found out about her pregnancy, she informed all the directors and producers she was working with at that time. However, one of the Indian producers gave her cold vibes. Not only this, he insisted that she wear tight clothing despite knowing that it would discomfort her as she was pregnant. She was quoted as saying:
“An Indian producer I was working with wasn’t happy about the news. He responded coldly and even insisted I wear tight-fitting clothes despite my discomfort and bloating.”
Radhika Apte further revealed that during her first trimester, she had constant cravings and was eating a lot of rice and pasta. She also went through the usual physical changes, but instead of understanding her, the producers and directors showed insensitive behaviour towards her. She wasn’t allowed to see a doctor when she was in pain and felt uneasy on set. Talking about it, Radhika shared:
“I was in my first trimester and had constant cravings — I was eating a lot, be it rice or pasta — and going through the usual physical changes, but instead of understanding, I was met with insensitivity. I wasn’t even allowed to see a doctor when I was in pain and feeling uneasy on set. That truly disheartened me.”
Radhika Apte revealed how a Hollywood filmmaker treated her during pregnancy
Radhika revealed that she was working on an international project around the same time, and the Hollywood filmmaker was extremely supportive when she told him that she was eating more than usual and might look like a different person by the end of the shoot. Radhika was quoted as saying:
“The Hollywood filmmaker I was working with was so supportive. When I mentioned I was eating more than usual and might look like a completely different person by the end of the shoot, he laughed and said, ‘Don’t worry, even if you’re another person by the end of this project, it’s fine. Because you’re pregnant.’ That reassurance and warmth meant the world to me.”
Radhika revealed that as a pregnant woman working in the entertainment business, she wasn’t expecting special treatment. She just wanted empathy, kindness and some basic humanity when a person shares deeply joyous and personal news.
