Singer, anchor and actor Aditya Narayan celebrated his birthday yesterday. He spoke about how he spent his day and future plans in an interview with us.
Aditya Narayan on his birthday celebrations this year, “Hearing my daughter sing ‘Happy Birthday Papa’ made it the best celebration I could have asked for”
How did you bring in this birthday?
With family, food, and the wildest plan of all. Consuming diet soda & sleeping just past midnight, so I could recover well enough to train in the morning. But truly, hearing my daughter sing ‘Happy Birthday Papa’ made it the best celebration I could have asked for.
Does your daughter enjoy your birthday more than you?
Oh, 100% yes. Tvisha believes balloons, cake, and attention are legally hers. I’m just the sponsor. But truthfully, being her dad is the greatest joy of my life. Every day, she reminds me what unconditional love looks like. Her smile melts my stress, her curiosity teaches me patience, and her tiny arms around my neck? That’s heaven. If this is what fatherhood is, I was born to be a Papa.
Now that you’re in your 30s, how do you look back at your journey so far?
Thirty years in the industry, and I’ve realised: the applause fades, the cameras turn off, but what stays is the feeling you leave behind in people’s hearts. I’ve sung, hosted, laughed, fallen, risen… and somewhere along the way, I began to see that we’re all just expressions of one divine source—learning, unlearning, and remembering who we really are.
Musician, singer, anchor… which gives you the most kick?
Singing gives me soul kicks. Hosting gives me adrenaline kicks. But making people feel something—that’s the real high. Still, there’s nothing quite like being on the live stage. The audience’s eyes shining, their voices echoing yours. That’s the divine stuff. That’s why I do this.
Are you and your father (Udit Narayan) planning something together?
Yes. I’m trying to convince him to finally take a vacation, but he’d rather rehearse than relax. That said, something special is brewing. Can’t say much yet, but let’s just say, if you’ve grown up on his songs and connected with mine, you’re in for a heartfelt surprise.
Has it been an advantage or not being his son?
Both. The doors definitely opened… But the expectations? They barged in, rearranged the furniture, and asked why I didn’t sound exactly like him. Being Udit Narayan’s son is my greatest honour. But carving my own path—that’s been the real journey. And you know what?
Tell me?
I’ve grown to love the weight of the legacy. The admiration, the pressure, the comparisons, the criticism—it’s all fuel. Fuel to refine my craft. Fuel to build resilience. Fuel to become not just his son… but my own man. And one day, perhaps… the kind of father, artist, and human my daughter will look up to, with pride and no pressure. Just the way I looked at my father.
