Island Records has signed model, actress and singer Suki Waterhouse to a record deal, the company announced today (Aug. 6). This marks the first major label deal for the British artist, who released her first two albums — 2022’s I Can’t Let Go and 2024’s Memoir of a Sparklemuffin — independently through Sub Pop.
Waterhouse began her career as a fashion model while she was still a teenager, before transitioning into acting, appearing in over a dozen films and a handful of television series, most recently 2023’s music-based book adaptation Daisy Jones & the Six. She began releasing music in 2016, releasing a series of singles that she would ultimately collect on the 2022 EP Milk Teeth before releasing her two albums via Sub Pop. Ending her free agency by signing with Island, she now joins a roster that has been on fire over the last two years through artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Gigi Perez, Lola Young, Shawn Mendes, Demi Lovato, Olivia Dean and more.
“Suki is an incredible artist and magnetic personality,” Island co-chairmen and co-CEOs Justin Eshak and Imran Majid said in a joint statement announcing the signing. “Her creative world occupies a singular place in its artistic integrity and ambition. We’re beyond excited to welcome her to the Island family and support her creative vision moving forward.”
Last year, Waterhouse opened for select dates on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in August, before releasing her Sparklemuffin album in September. She’s currently on a European tour supporting that release playing multiple festivals, and will be the opening act for Laufey on a run of U.S. arena dates throughout September and October.
