Kamar Mohsin Shaikh, who ties rakhi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi every year on Raksha Bandhan, has prepared two handmade rakhis and is waiting for an invitation from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Kamar Mohsin Shaikh was born in Pakistan’s Karachi and moved to India after her marriage in 1981. She has been tying rakhi to PM Modi for more than 30 years. This year, she has made two rakhis with designs of Om and Lord Ganesha.

She shared that she never buys rakhis from the market, instead, makes them by hand at home each year and carefully chooses one to tie on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wrist.

Recalling her first meeting with the prime minister during his time as a volunteer with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Shaikh said that he once asked her how she was and that brief exchange marked the beginning of a brother-sister bond that has lasted for over three decades.

Since that day, she has tied a rakhi on his wrist every year and Modi has accepted her as his sister. She also recalled a past Raksha Bandhan when she prayed that Modi would become the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

When that prayer came true, Modi asked her what blessing she would offer next, to which she responded that she hoped he would become the Prime Minister of India, a wish that has now been fulfilled, with Modi currently serving his third term in office.

In 2024, Shaikh was unable to travel to Delhi for Raksha Bandhan, but this year, she is hopeful that an invitation from the Prime Minister’s Office will allow her to visit again.

She plans to make the journey with her husband and continue the tradition by tying her handmade rakhi on the Prime Minister’s wrist.

As she prepares for the festival, Shaikh said she continues to pray for the Prime Minister’s good health and hopes he will continue serving the country. She added that she wishes to see him return for a fourth term in office.
