A group of students allegedly planted non-vegetarian bones in a vegetarian biryani dish at a restaurant in Gorakhpur, in what appears to be a bizarre attempt to avoid paying for their meal. Several videos of the incident have gone viral on social media.
The incident occurred on July 31 at Biryani Bay near Shastri Chowk in the Cantonment area.
The group, around 10 in number, had placed a substantial order that included both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, which racked up a bill of approximately Rs 5,500. But once the food arrived, they allegedly resorted to a trick. They began claiming that there were bones in their vegetarian biryani during the holy month of Sawan.
One of the students recorded a video in which he, along with others, claimed that they had found the bone in veg biryani.

As the matter intensified, the restaurant staff grew suspicious and called the police. Officers from the Cantt area arrived to calm the situation. Area Officer Yogendra Singh later confirmed that all individuals involved were either university students or working on a project in the city.
“Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, we saw the group mixing bones from the non-vegetarian plates into the vegetarian dish. The act was clearly intentional,” Singh said. He confirmed that a legal action is being taken in the matter.
The restaurant owner remained firm throughout. Several videos of the drama have surfaced online. “They created a scene claiming bones were in the vegetarian food during Sawan. CCTV showed they planted them themselves. This is shameless,” read one social media post.

When India Today reached the spot, they found that the tables used by the group were placed closely together. This made it easier for them to pass off bones from one dish to another without raising suspicion. Unfortunately for them, the restaurant’s CCTV caught it all.
At the moment, comments from the individuals involved have not surfaced, but the police say proceedings are ongoing.
