NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences for the demise of former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satyapal Malik on Tuesday.In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Saddened by the passing away of Shri Satyapal Malik Ji. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of grief. Om Shanti.”Moreover, leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge paid his tributes to the “farmer-friendly leader” saying, “The news of the demise of former Governor and farmer-friendly leader, Shri Satyapal Malik Ji, is extremely saddening. He fearlessly and candidly held a mirror to the truth in front of those in power. My deepest condolences to the grieving family and supporters.”“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of former Governor Satyapal Malik Ji. I will always remember him as a person who fearlessly spoke the truth until his last moment and consistently advocated for the interests of the people. I express my heartfelt condolences to his family, supporters, and well-wishers,” leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said.Once a senior BJP leader, Malik gained attention for his outspoken nature and later emerged as a sharp critic of the party. He stirred controversy by publicly alleging security failures in the 2019 Pulwama attack and highlighting corruption issues in the Kiru Hydropower Project.`Malik died at the age of 79 while undergoing treatment at around at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi.
