Pop superstars Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars are leading the pack at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), announced on Tuesday, with the most nominations. Gaga scored 12 nominations, including Album of the Year and Best Album for her hit record Mayhem. Bruno Mars followed closely with 11 nominations.
According to Reuters, Gaga and Mars will also face off in the Video of the Year category. Other nominees include fan-favorite Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar’s incendiary diss song Not Like Us, and newcomer Sabrina Carpenter’s Manchild. The competition for the title is guaranteed to be an electrifying battle.
Superstars Taylor Swift and Beyonc, each with 30 career VMAs, are again in the spotlight with nominations for Artist of the Year. Other notable nominees in the same category include rapper Kendrick Lamar, Latin sensation Bad Bunny, country hitmaker Morgan Wallen, and Canadian pop powerhouse The Weeknd.
To honour a broader range of musical styles, the VMAs have introduced two new awards: Best Country Video and Best Pop Artist.
In the country category, nominees include Chris Stapleton’s Think I’m in Love with You, Jelly Roll’s Liar, and Morgan Wallen’s Smile. For Pop Artist, the contenders are Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, and Tate McRae.
Fans can now cast their votes online across 19 categories ahead of the big night. The 2025 MTV VMAs will air live from New York on September 7 on CBS. The iconic awards show, which debuted in 1984, remains known for its unforgettable moments—from Madonna and Britney Spears’ on-stage kiss to Gaga’s infamous meat dress.
