Machine Gun Kelly reveals he turned down his audition for Ryan Coogler’s Sinners for one specific reason.
The rapper-singer made a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, where he shared that he decided not to audition for the role of “the second vampire” because he would have had to say the N-word.
“There’s been plenty of movies that come out that I was like, ah, I was supposed to be in that, or I did auditions for that. Like Sinners, I was supposed to be in that,” he explained. “The vampire, they had me set up to do the audition — it’s the one that’s in the house, so he’s the second vampire, the one that the guy comes and eats the family. In the audition, he has to say the N-word and I wouldn’t do it.”
Kelly is likely referring to the role of Bert, a KKK member who was turned into a vampire. Peter Dreimanis ultimately played the part. Sinners, which also starred Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld and Miles Caton, became a surprise box office hit. The film follows twin brothers who return to their hometown in an attempt to leave their troubled lives behind, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting back home.
Despite Sinners not working out for Kelly, the “Cliché” artist still has “a lot of aspirations to be in movies.” While “it just hasn’t panned out that way” yet, Kelly knows he’s “on universal timing. It’ll align. The angels will put something in the works.”
However, he would prefer “to be in cinema while I still look young,” quipping, “I would really like to be recruited into a movie while I still got some looks.”
