India’s connection with history, mythology and culture has always been special, which is why many films are made on those subjects. A new addition to the list is the animated mythological action film, Mahavatar Narsimha, directed by Ashwin Kumar, which is still running in theatres. While most Indian films have suffered from a dry run at the box office, Mahavatar Narsimha has emerged as a big success, surprising box officer experts. When and where will Mahavatar Narsimha release on OTT?
After the theatrical success of Mahavatar Narsimha, fans are eagerly waiting for its OTT release. Although the makers have given no confirmation about it, trade analyst, Rohit Jaiswal has given some updates. He revealed to India Times that there is a ‘50% possibility’ that the Hindi version of Mahavatar Narsimha would release on JioHotstar. However, there is a high chance that the regional language versions of the film, like the ones in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, will release on other platforms. Sharing his take, Rohit said:
“This is a Hombale film, so there is a 50% possibility of it going to JioHotstar.”
The speculation is based on the platform’s previous collaborations with Hombale Films. For those unaware, the Hindi versions of the production house’s previous films with Prabhas’s Salaaar, and Raajakumara were released on the same platform. As of now, Mahavatar Narsimha is enjoying a strong theatrical run, and the confirmed OTT release date will likely depend on how long it can maintain this momentum at the box office. Given the present success, the Mahavatar Narsimha‘s OTT debut can happen after several more weeks, possibly by late August or September.
What is Mahavatar Narsimha about?
An important chapter of the Indian Mythology inspires Mahavatar Narsimha’s plot. It focuses on the story of the powerful demon king, Hiranyakashipu, who had pledged to get revenge from Lord Vishnu’s Varaha avatar for the death of his brother, Hiranyaksha. Since the king is greedy for power, he decided to announce himself as a god. Soon, he begins to threaten the universe and his son, Prahlad, continues to be a devotee of Vishnu. Despite various attempts by his father, Prahlad refuses to stop worshipping the lord. Eventually, lord Vishnu’s fierce Narsimha avatar comes to an end to Hiranyakashipu’s terrorize and restores balance in the universe.
