A 25-year-old Bangladeshi man attempted to break the glass of the International Transit Terminal at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport on Friday, creating a brief moment of chaos before being detained.

Accused, Mohammad Ashraful from Narayanganj, Bangladesh, arrived in Kolkata from Singapore on an Indigo flight in the afternoon. He was scheduled to board a connecting flight to Dhaka. However, while waiting in the International Transit Lounge, Ashraful suddenly attempted to break the glass wall of the terminal and exit the airport.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel quickly detained him and began questioning him. During the interrogation, Ashraful reportedly made several incoherent remarks, raising suspicion about his mental state and motives.

The CISF later handed him over to the NSCBI Airport Police Station. That evening, Bidhan Nagar Police officially arrested him.

Authorities confirmed that Ashraful had been living and working in Singapore. Further investigation is underway to determine the reason behind his actions.

On Tuesday, the anti-rowdy squad of Kolkata Police arrested a Bangladeshi woman for illegally residing in India. The accused has been identified as Shanta Pal (28), a resident of Barisal in Bangladesh. She was arrested from her rented apartment in the Jadavpur area. Two Aadhaar cards, a voter card and a ration card have also been recovered from her.

In a prolonged search at her rented place, several Bangladeshi passports issued in her name, an employee card of Regent Airways (Bangladesh), an admit card of secondary education in Dhaka, two Aadhar cards registered in different addresses, an Indian voter/Epic card and Ration card, all of different addresses were found and seized.
