Veteran actor Anil Kapoor is celebrating a proud moment as Animal, one of the most talked-about films of the year, clinched three major honours at the 71st National Film Awards. Directed by Kabir Singh filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal was recognised for its technical excellence, taking home awards for Best Background Score (Harshavardhan Rameshwar), Best Re-Recording Mixer (Raja Krishnan), and Best Sound Design (Sachin Sudhakaran & Hariharan Muralidharan).
Anil Kapoor reacts as Animal bags 3 wins at National Film Awards: “What a roar!”
Kapoor, who played a pivotal role as Ranbir Kapoor’s father in the film, took to social media to express his excitement. Sharing the news on his Instagram stories, he wrote – “HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Team Animal! Winners of 3 National Awards! What a team. What a ‘roar’ moment.”
While the film received mixed reviews for its intense and emotionally charged narrative, the technical brilliance behind its audio design and score was consistently praised. Harshavardhan Rameshwar’s gripping background music in particular played a key role in heightening the tension and emotional depth throughout the film.
Animal follows a strained father-son relationship set against a backdrop of violence, trauma, and emotional turmoil. Ranbir Kapoor’s layered performance was at the heart of the story, while Anil Kapoor’s portrayal of the emotionally distant father added weight to the complex family dynamic. The film also starred Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead and Bobby Deol in a chilling antagonist role.
With its theatrical release, Animal became a commercial juggernaut and sparked widespread conversations online, not just for its bold storytelling but also for its stylised execution. Now, its recognition at the National Film Awards solidifies its place as a technically accomplished film, especially in the sound department.
Anil Kapoor, who has always supported creatively ambitious projects, seemed especially moved by this win, reflecting his pride in being part of a film that pushed cinematic boundaries. His excitement comes ahead of his next big release — Subedaar, directed by Jalsa’s Suresh Triveni, where he takes on yet another emotionally nuanced character.
With Animal‘s success and Kapoor’s continued run of powerful roles, the National Award win is another feather in the cap of a long-standing career defined by versatility and resilience.
