After a gap of 25 years, Bollywood icon Aamir Khan made his way back to Bhuj, Gujarat—more precisely, to the village of Kotai, the filming location of his Oscar-winning movie Lagaan. He returned to the village to host a special screening of his film Sitaare Zameen Par.

The special screening was part of a meaningful effort by the actor to make cinema more accessible to the public. The film, which has already received widespread appreciation from viewers, is now offered on YouTube through a pay-per-view model.
According to ANI reports, Aamir Khan appeared nostalgic as he revisited the location. In an interaction with the outlet, Aamir shared, “My memories of Lagaan got refreshed today.” He also spoke about the lack of cinema halls in the rural parts of the country. “The cinema should reach these areas. I wanted my new movie Sitaare Zameen Par to reach every village in the nation,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of making films more accessible to India’s extensive rural audience.
The 3 Idiots star also highlighted the significance of impactful storytelling and accessible entertainment. “This is the first-ever screening in Kotai village. Such screenings should happen in every village. It was my wish to conduct the first screening in Kachchh. This is a historic place. I have so many memories, and I felt very happy after revisiting,” the actor remarked.
The special screening of Sitaare Zameen Par took place in an open area and was attended by the whole village, including school children and local residents. Aamir Khan was spotted sitting on the ground alongside the audience, watching and enjoying the film with them.
Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by R.S. Prasanna, serves as a spiritual successor to Aamir Khan’s 2007 blockbuster Taare Zameen Par. Produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, the film showcases ten emerging talents: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar. In the film, Aamir Khan plays a basketball coach fulfilling community service duties, where he is assigned to train neurodivergent adults following a DUI offense. The story explores how his character evolves and gains a new perspective on life and humanity through his interactions with these specially abled individuals. Genelia D’Souza also stars in a significant role alongside Khan.
