Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma got legally divorced in March 2025. The cricketer didn’t make any official statement back then except for his ‘be your own sugar daddy’, conveying the message. However, now the Indian cricketer has opened up about the difficult time and the mental health challenges he faced after his much-publicised divorce.
Yuzvendra Chahal opens up about his divorce from Dhanashree Verma
Yuzvendra Chahal sat for a candid conversation with Raj Shamani on his YouTube channel. The cricketer revealed how, during his divorce from Dhanashree Verma, he was labelled as a cheater after the separation. He shared that he had been loyal throughout the relationship. Yuzi added that it was the people jumping to conclusions about their relationship which hurt him the most. He was quoted as saying:
“After my divorce, I was called a cheater. And I have never cheated in my life. I’m an extremely loyal person. You wouldn’t even find a loyal person like me. I deeply care about my people. That’s what affects me, that you guys don’t even know what has happened, and yet you are blaming me.”
Yuzvendra Chahal is known for his calm demeanour on the field, despite his struggles with the intense trolling and baseless assumptions that flooded the internet after his breakup. Talking about the same, he stated that media houses would write anything about him, and if he tried to address it, more people would come and troll him. He shared that people don’t care about him or his truth, so he doesn’t see the point in justifying himself.
“Just because I’m seen with someone doesn’t mean you’ll write anything for views. And if you react and speak up, then 10 more people will come and troll you even more. Because they want masala all the time. I know my truth and the people who are close to me know my truth so I don’t care. Why do I justify to anybody when I haven’t done anything wrong?”

In the same conversation, Yuzvendra Chahal revealed that he was depressed after his divorce from Dhanashree Verma. He revealed that he would have anxiety attacks, and he never shared anything about it to get sympathy, but he was suicidal for almost five months after their separation. He added that he took a break from cricket to heal, but despite all the materialistic comforts, he felt empty inside. He stated:
“I’d been in depression for four to five months. I get anxiety attacks. Only my close ones know this. I have never shared this anywhere for sympathy. I used to have suicidal thoughts because my mind had completely stopped working. You have everything in your life, all the luxuries, but you still don’t have happiness. Then you get these thoughts — what to do with this life, just leave it.”

Chahal credited his close friends, including Pratik Pawar and RJ Mahvash, for helping him during his lowest phase. He shared that he didn’t want to bother his family with what was going on with him. So, his close friends helped him a lot.
