Actor Shah Rukh Khan reacted to winning the Best Actor in a Leading Role Award for director Atlee’s ‘Jawan’ (2023). He shared the award with actor Vikrant Massey. Massey won the award for director Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ’12th Fail’. This is the first National Award win for Khan and Massey.
The ‘Jawan’ actor, while expressing gratitude over winning the prestigious award, wrote, “Thank you for honouring me with the National Award. Thanks to the jury, the I&B ministry. Iss samman ke liye Bharat Sarkar ka dhanyawaad. Overwhelmed with the love showered upon me. Half a hug to everyone today.”
‘Jawan’ was backed by Khan’s home production company – Red Chillies Entertainment. The movie also featured actors – Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Sunil Grover and others in pivotal characters.
Director Ashuotsh Gowariker, who was present in the panel, announced the winners. At the ceremony held on August 1, 2025, actor Rani Mukerji won the Best Actress in a Leading Role Award for ‘Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway’ (2023). Among the top honours, ‘Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery’ (2023) bagged the National Film Award for Best Hindi Feature Film.
The Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment went to director Karan Johar’s ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ (2023). The award for Best Film in AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comic) went to ‘Hanu-Man’ (2023). The award for Best Feature Film Promoting National, Social And Environmental Values went to ‘Sam Bahadur’ (2023).Director Sudipto Ghosh’s ‘The Kerala Story’ won the award for Best Cinematography and Best Direction.
Khan was last seen in director Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’ (2023). He will next be seen in Siddharth Anand’s ‘King’. The movie co-produced by Marflix Entertainment and Red Chillies Entertainment, also features Suhana Khan, Abhay Verma, Jaideep Ahlawat, Abhishek Bachchan, Jackie Shroff and others in key roles.
‘King’ is tentatively set for a theatrical release on Gandhi Jayanti 2026.
