The Great Indian Kapil Show has become one of the most loved comedy talk shows over the years. The comedian, Kapil Sharma, changed the way comedy was perceived in the entertainment industry and went on to build one of the biggest sketch comedies in the country, turning his show into one of the most glamorous series on Netflix. The show was renewed for its third season in June 2025. However, one face was missing from the show. The audience soon noticed that Rajiv Thakur has been absent from the screen, and now the comedian has come forward to address the same.
Rajiv Thakur addresses his absence from The Great Indian Kapil Show
Rajiv Thakur’s journey with Kapil Sharma dates back to the comedian’s initial days in the industry, making his absence from The Great Indian Kapil Show even more shocking for the viewers. The audience had been concerned whether Kapil had a falling out with Rajiv. However, the latter has now addressed the same in an interview with Pinkvilla. During the conversation, Rajiv spoke about rebooting his stand-up career after Samay Raina encouraged him to upload one of his comic sets on YouTube, which received a good response.
However, it was his absence from The Great Indian Kapil Show that the fans were more keen to dig into. The comedian, when asked about the same, took a comical way to respond and stated that no one takes a break from such a big show, so he must have been removed. However, Rajiv Thakur soon added that he was just kidding. He stated:
“Itne bade show se koi rest nahi leta, obviously aapko nikala gaya hoga. Just kidding. Shayad kuch dates match nahi hui kyunki voh beech beech mein bula rahe the. Like ek episode kiya fir dusre ki mere paas date nahi thi. Mereko naa ek hota hai commitment kardi toh uspe rehna hai.”
Rajiv Thakur, in the same conversation, revealed that the cast of The Great Indian Kapil Show is already under a lot of pressure. He shared that they had been told their sets should not exceed 55 minutes. Given that other members already have a lot to perform during the episode, combined with the chat with the star guests, there was not much room. He stated:
“Unko bhi time ka bahut chal raha hai ki 55 min ka hi episode banana hai, already Kiku, Krushna aur guest have so much to do fir yahan space bhut kum banti hai aapki.”

Rajiv Thakur had been a part of The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 1 and Season 2. However, he is not a part of the current season. The new season marked the return of Navjot Singh Sidhu alongside Archana Puran Singh and introduced a new concept of inviting fans on stage to showcase their talent. The series kicked off with Salman Khan as its first guest. The upcoming episodes will feature, actress, Parineeti Chopra gracing the couch with her husband and politician, Raghav Chadha.
Rajiv Thakur’s future plans
Rajiv Thakur, on the other hand, has announced the India tour for his stand-up comedy show, Gen Z Aur 90s Waale. The actor and comedian will kick off the tour with his first show at Gurgaon’s Guftagu Comedy Club on August 8, 2025, followed by Delhi on August 9, 2025. He will conclude the tour in Kanpur on September 28, 2025, after performing in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Lucknow.
