Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Friday joined the political pushback against US President Donald Trump’s remarks describing India as a “dead economy”, asserting that the claim was untrue. His response came a day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi backed Trump’s statement, saying he was glad the US President had stated the facts.

Responding to a question about Trump’s remark, the Thiruvananthapuram MP told reporters, “This is not the case, and we all know it.”

Earlier this week, slamming India’s ties with Russia and New Delhi’s defiance of US warnings over its relationship with Moscow, Trump referred to both countries as “dead economies” and brazenly declared that he “does not care” what India does with Russia.
