Authorities in Montana are searching for a suspect after multiple people were shot at a business in the town of Anaconda on Friday, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The ATF’s Denver field division confirmed the shooting on social media and urged the public to stay away from the area.
The Granite County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect remains at large and was last seen wearing a tie-dye shirt, blue jeans, and an orange bandanna. A SWAT team has cleared the suspect’s home in Anaconda, but the search continues.
Residents have been urged to avoid the area and report any suspicious activity. The FBI is assisting with the response, though it referred specific questions to local law enforcement.
Montana Governor Greg Gianforte said he is closely monitoring the situation. “Please join Susan and me in praying for the victims, their loved ones, and the brave law enforcement officers responding to this tragedy,” the governor said in a post on social media.
Officials have not yet released details about the motive or the condition of the victims. The situation remains active as authorities continue their investigation.
