With continuous rainfall disrupting public life in Rajasthan, in a tragic incident, two people are feared drowned after a mini-truck passing along a bridge was swept away by the swelling Parwati river in Dholpur district of Rajsthan. According to officials, the incident occurred near the Ranoli culvert in the Maniyan police station area.
There were four people in the mini-truck and as it was being swept away, the locals could rescue only two from the river. A search operation is underway for the other two.
The people inside the mini-truck included the driver and the cleaner of the vehicle, a contractor and a labourer. While the contractor and the labourer could be rescued, the others were swept away.
In a separate incident, a young man died after falling into an open manhole while riding his bike in the Bhiwadi area in Khairthal-Tijara district.
Rajasthan, one of India’s driest states, has surprisingly received excess rainfall so far this season. The western state of India has received 384.7 mm of rain against the normal of 200.4 mm, a surplus of 92 percent.
A yellow alert has been issued for moderate to heavy rainfall in six districts and schools remained closed in 16 districts on Friday.
