Reflecting on the creative process behind ‘Saiyaara’, Tanishk Bagchi shared what truly drove the making of the track. When asked what was going through his mind during those quiet, solitary moments after the song was made, he explained, “While we were creating the song with Mohit sir, the thought of making a hit and topping the charts wasn’t even in our minds. We just wanted to make a good song. Mohit sir was making a beautiful film, and we were focused on doing something meaningful. We wanted to put in honest effort without faking anything. We were chasing simplicity.”

Speaking about director Mohit Suri and his deep connection with music, Tanishk Bagchi offered a unique metaphor to describe him. “Mohit Suri is someone I’d describe with one word — a band-aid. A waterproof band-aid, and the medicine is built right into it. He’s not just someone who protects; wherever there’s a wound, he heals it. And once his job is done, he quietly disappears. That’s who Mohit sir is. In my life, he’s not just a director — he’s a healer. He understands love and the meaning behind it. For him, music is the top priority. He starts with music, and through it, you can see the whole story. This is my third film with him, and from the very first one, I knew he wasn’t just another director — he’s something else entirely.”

When asked if he’s ever felt the urge to put his foot down and take on an entire album by himself, Tanishk Bagchi admitted he has. “Yes, I have put my foot down. I did it recently with Sky Force, and the songs from that did really well. I also did Bhool Chuk Maaf, and I’m working on more. Of course, I do feel like I should be doing full albums. But at the same time, I believe that if I get more films, I can try more experiments. The thought is definitely there. If I get just one film, I might end up doing everything — but then the dedication might vary. Some songs could get more attention, some less. But if I can strike that balance, then I’m more than happy to do it.”

Tanishk Bagchi’s ‘Saiyaara’, featuring Faheem Abdullah, has become a global hit, topping the Billboard Global 200 and Spotify’s Top Global Songs chart, marking a major moment for Indian music internationally.
