India and England are set to face off in the fifth and final Test, starting Thursday, July 31, at the Kennington Oval in London. With the series level at 2-2, England have a golden opportunity to clinch the series, while India must win to avoid defeat.
India are forced into a change after Rishabh Pant was ruled out due to a foot injury sustained during the Manchester Test. Although Narayan Jagadeesan has been added as a replacement, Dhruv Jurel is expected to take the gloves.
There is also uncertainty surrounding Jasprit Bumrah’s participation, with his workload remaining a concern. If he is rested, Arshdeep Singh could make his Test debut.
Ahead of the match, captain Shubman Gill hinted at Arshdeep’s inclusion, confirming that the left-arm pacer has been asked to be on standby.
“Arshdeep Singh has been asked to get ready, but we will take a call on the playing XI after looking at the pitch, by this evening,” Gill said in the press conference.
India also have the option of recalling either Prasidh Krishna or a fit-again Akash Deep in place of Anshul Kamboj, who struggled in the Old Trafford Test.
England, on the other hand, will be without captain Ben Stokes, who has been ruled out due to a shoulder injury. They will also miss the services of Liam Dawson, Jofra Archer, and Brydon Carse. To cover the absentees, England have called up Jacob Bethell, Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson, and Josh Tongue for the final Test.
