Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is a crucial part of every 2000s kid’s core memory. It became a pivotal part of their daily routine, and they grew up with every passing episode, relating to and learning from the members of a society inspired by the immense knowledge of the writer, Taarak Mehta. However, as the show grew and years passed, several cast members said goodbye to the show, but one departure left the viewers most heartbroken: the absence of Disha Vakani’s character, ‘Dayaben’, from the show.
‘Jethalal’ misses his beloved ‘Dayaben’
It has been 17 years since Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah first aired on Sony SAB. The viewers have been captivated by the show since its first episode, and the older episodes remain a staple in their households. However, they have been disheartened by the show’s declining ratings and the changes in the cast. Amid that, it is ‘Dayaben’ aka Disha Vakani’s absence from the show that has been aching for years now.
Nonetheless, it seems like the fans are not the only ones missing ‘Daya’. In a recent event celebration in Mumbai, ‘Jethalal’ aka Dilip Joshi got candid about how even he misses his beloved co-star. Disha was last seen in the show in 2017. The actress has since been on maternity leave. During the event, Dilip reflected on the memories and bond they have shared and stated:
“We have worked from 2008 to 2017, so I definitely miss her. It was a long time, and we did some iconic scenes together. Both of us come from a theatre background, so our chemistry was quite good from the start. Personally, as a co-actor, I definitely miss her a lot, because the scenes were very enjoyable with her.”

During the event, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah producer, Asit Kumar Modi, shared an update on the long-awaited return of ‘Dayaben’ to the show. He discussed the casting delays and the search for someone who could match Disha Vakani’s iconic presence. He added that Disha had set a benchmark and stated:
“Of course, Dayaben not being there is a huge challenge. Disha set a benchmark for that character with the way she has performed. Finding someone like her is very difficult. I don’t know what is God’s will, but I hope to find someone soon and bring Dayaben back.”
In the same conversation, Asit Kumar Modi revealed that he wishes that Disha Vakani would return to the show. However, due to personal reasons, she is unable to do so. He shared that even without ‘Dayaben’, his team has supported him, especially ‘Jethalal’ and ‘Baapuji’. The producer recalled how the set was extremely lively with Disha around. He was quoted as saying:
“The set was always very lively with Daya, and they maintained that energy for 8 years. I have been telling the audience time and again that we will bring Daya, but issues keep arising. Finding a good replacement is also tough because a very strong image of hers is etched in people’s minds. But I shall soon overcome this challenge with your love and support.”
