Roc Nation has released a statement following the tragic NYC shooting on Monday evening (July 28) that left five dead, including the gunman, and one victim in stable condition.
A gunman, who has been identified as Shane Devon Tamura, 27, per The New York Times, rushed an office building around 6:30 p.m. ET with an assault rifle and opened fire, killing a New York City police officer and three others.
The Madison Avenue building, owned by Rudin Management, is home to the NFL offices and investment firm Blackstone.
Jay-Z and Roc Nation partnered with the NFL in 2019 to serve as the league’s Live Music Entertainment Strategists, which includes the Super Bowl Halftime Show. The two parties agreed to extend the partnership in 2024.
“Our thoughts & prayers go out to the families who suffered a horrific loss yesterday,” the company wrote in a statement posted to social media on Tuesday (July 29). “We have those who were affected and our NFL family in our hearts.”
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reportedly said that one league employee was seriously injured in the attack and hospitalized.
Tamura reportedly drove from Las Vegas to New York City in order to execute the attack on Monday evening inside the 44-story skyscraper. According to police commisioner Jessica Tisch, Tamura was a licensed gun owner in Nevada.
“Mass shootings are a plague. The gun violence epidemic continues to afflict our country and now has shattered lives in our great City,” said House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries. “The time has come for decisive action.”
