If anyone has mastered the cozy footwear game, it’s BLACKPINK’s JENNIE.
The “Shut Down” singer shared photos on her Instagram on July 28, cataloging her time in Toronto. In the carousel between photos backstage during BLACKPINK’s DEADLINE tour, the singer was sporting extra comfy black slides hailing from Adidas. The particular style was the brand’s Yeezy Slides in Onyx, which currently retails for $98 on StockX and $175 on Farfetch.
The style is rather standard, but comfortable. The slide’s construction is EVA, or ethylene-vinyl acetate, is a type of plastic that combines properties of both plastic and foam, creating a new material that is both soft and lightweight. The material also shares some similarities with rubber because of its flexibility, and is used a bunch in footwear manufacturing. EVA is often utilized in the making of soles or the entirety of the shoe and gives the shoe a springy and cushy feel on the feet.
JENNIE’s pick is primarily made of injected EVA foam in black. The style is backless, allowing for easy on and off, and is minimalistic in nature. Simple and stripped down, it’s got subtle embossed Adidas branding throughout and thick straps to keep the shoe situated in place. JENNIE has styled these slides with white ankle socks.
Given how simple the Adidas silhouette is, the slides have been duped time and time again. With so many similar styles, it’s hard to know which one was the OG. Despite the confusing origins, similar styles to JENNIE’s footwear pick can be shopped from top brands such as Nike, Crocs, Puma, Coach and even Amazon. Some of our favorite foam dupes include Amazon’s Unisex Pillow Slides in Black, retailing for $22.99, one of the more affordable options on our list, along with Nike’s Calm Slides in Black for $50.
Puma’s Shibusa Platform Slides in Puma Black are also a comparable dupe. It’s got the chunky composition, slip-on construction and subtle branding — they’re nearly an exact match. We’ve also seen dupes from Old Navy for just $5.99. Whether you’re opting for the OG or the comparable copy, it’s is an extremely versatile and comfy shoe that we can envision becoming a longtime staple in your wardrobe.
